Welcome

"It's not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world. It's our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless."

Night Time Teacher Resources

Attached are going to be resources if you wish to take on the role of the Night Time Teacher. If you wish to take on this role, look for patterns within their work so we can discuss any concerns and evaluate where and why problems might be occurring. There might be times when we need to work together to help a child reach the finish line. I look forward to the collaborative effort that will take :)

If Nighttime Teacher is not a role you would like to take on, please follow the format of P.D.F.S.

Play- Play is crucial for a child's neurological development. Not playing video games, but playing outside with friends or family. Go outside and encourage imaginative play with friends or sports activities.

"It is in playing, and only in playing, that the individual child or adult is able to be creative and to use the whole personality, and it is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self."

-D.W. Winnicott, pediatrician

Downtime- Downtime can be taken in the form of sleeping or meditation. Sometimes school days can be stressful and the kids are worn out at the end of the day. We all need a breather at times and it's okay to give the kids a moment to catch a break

“After thirty years of intensive research, we can now answer many of the questions posed earlier. The recycle rate of a human being is around sixteen hours. After sixteen hours of being awake, the brain begins to fail. Humans need more than seven hours of sleep each night to maintain cognitive performance. After ten days of just seven hours of sleep, the brain is as dysfunctional as it would be after going without sleep for twenty-four hours. Three full nights of recovery sleep (i.e., more nights than a weekend) are insufficient to restore performance back to normal levels after a week of short sleeping. Finally, the human mind cannot accurately sense how sleep-deprived it is when sleep-deprived.”
-Matthew Walker, Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams

Family- Spending time with family is a great way to build ESL skills. According to Psychiatrist Bruce D. Perry, recipient of the 2014 Dolores Cole Education Prize for early childhood brain development, today's 18-year-olds have the Emotional Social Learning neurological capacity of a 6-year-old. Spending quality time with family playing games or activities is a great way to connect the needed neurons for a successful ESL

To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.

- Buddha

Skill- There are many life skills that are not taught in the classroom. Cooking, changing a tire, laundry, money management. Take this time to teach them skills they will need for the future to better prepare them for lives everyday duties.

"Cooking with kids is not just about ingredients, recipes, and cooking. It's about harnessing imagination, empowerment, and creativity.  Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together."

-Guy Fieri
